Hi Anne

I have Cahalane family in Boston, and its quite a common name here in Co.Cork in Ireland. So if we are not related, then its possible that some of the other Cahalanes who live around here are  :). I am also missing a Cahalane in theUS...maybe you are one of his family?? He was Michael Cahalane, born near Skibbereen 20 Nov 1887, went to the US in May 1911 and lived in Roxbury MA up to 1914?...then my trail runs cold!
Thank you for contacting. Im very new to rootschat at the moment but I'll be learning!

From another resource

CAHALANE Cornelius, 21 years, labourer; CAHALANE Annie, 17 years, domestic servant and CAHALANE Maggie 19 years, domestic service, departed London on 7 Feb 1890 on the TARA to Mackay, Qld.  Unfortunately the image of the passenger record is not available at the moment.

Cath is it possible that Mary married in Ireland and emigrated to WA with her husaband ?

Cheers  :)

Numerous posts on various family history forums about the CAHALANE's from Skibbereen County Cork.  Many emigrated to USA.

Cheers

Hi Cando
Many thanks for all your assistance in this :). It is possible that Mary may have been married before moving to Australia, but family folklore suggests that this was not the case. Alot of the generation after the ones I'm researching in my family, did move to USA, (and some changed their name to Callahan ;).

Hi Neil

The John you suggested...the parents names and address don't match up I'm afraid. Mine are John & Ellen Cahalane. There were (and still are!) alot of unrelated Cahalane families in this area :). The home address of my family Cahalanes would be Drishanebeg, Skibbereen, Co.Cork, Ireland.

Thanks again....very much appreciated. I'm asking other family members to see if they can give me any other nugget of information so if I get any other info, I'll post it immediately.

Thanks again :)

There were 4 sisters . . . . .
Mary was born 30 March 1859.
Ellen was born 4 October 1863
Margaret was born 4 April 1868
Annie was born 10 Feb 1870.

Hi Cath

These two arrived in 1885.
CAHALANE Mary 23 Dorunda 1 Aug 1885
CAHALANE Ellen 20 Dorunda 1 Aug 1885

I believe they were the other two sisters even though their ages do not 'match'.

And neither do the ages match in Reply #19 posted by Cando.  Considered to be the correct family?
CAHALANE Cornelius 21 Tara 1 Apr 1890
CAHALANE Maggie 19 Tara 1 Apr 1890
CAHALANE Annie 17 Tara 1 Apr 1890

Essie I was simply providing information from another resource of passenger arrivals that had been posted by MERLIN.  I did not say that they were the correct family.

Immigration of CAHALANE's to QLD:

http://www.archives.qld.gov.au/downloads/Indexes/immigration/c-carrol.pdf

I cannot find any of the family in the Qld bdm's.  Those of similar names are not the family with parents John CAHALNE and Ellen MURPHY.  I do wonder if they did emigrate to Aus did they move on to another country :-\  However we do have a photo of one of the family in Perth.

Cheers

Hi Cando

Sorry. It was meant as a query in general, and not intended to imply otherwise.

The irony of the five named CAHALANE in question is their same order from eldest to youngest with a similar age difference.  And on the immigration index they are mostly three years younger than the actual birthdates given by Cath.

Coincidence or mistake on passenger records???
