Forename Abbreviation in 1881 census
« on: Thursday 21 April 05 20:05 BST (UK) »
Hi,
In the 1881 census I have a young girl  - her name stated as 'Ely. Brooks'. Can anybody tell me what 'Ely.' would be abbreviated from? I'm quite uncertain as to what it might be.

Thanks,

Ryan.

Hi Ryan
Have just looked at the original page and it looks like it could actually say Elz, which would be an abbreviation of Elizabeth.
Would you like the image?
