Date and ideas on the event please!

Hi, i'm looking for a date for this photograph please and also any ideas on what the event might be! At first i thought it was all women in the picture, but there seem to be men in the back row.

Ye gads, just look at those hats!!!!!! How fantastic!

Hats reached their maximum width about 1910 and then started back in again. So, around 1910-1912ish.

Wouldn't you love to see this cleaned up, get rid of that ugly thumbprint right in the middle of it?

If so, go back to the first post, click on the Modify button, and amend the title to ask for a nice restore. The restorers aren't supposed to do it without being asked. But I bet they'd have fun with this one

Fab photo!  It seems as if this group have only just arrived as some are still wearing their coats and carrying umbrellas whilst others are holding their coats - maybe it's an unseasonably warm day (perhaps early May as China suggested).  Everyone's wearing sprigs of flowers in celebration of something but I wonder if there would be flags for the children to wave if it was coronation day?   It's a large group, more than 40 people, might that indicate the location is near a railway station?  Although maybe they arrived in more than one charabanc?  Fascinating

Since Heather mentions children, I notice there's only one in the photo. That's unusual, especially in the days of huge families.

Maybe the rest of the kids are in school?

That's a point China!  I very carefully counted all the faces I could see but didn't realise there was only one child       Would everyone have had the day off for a coronation or did children celebrate in school?

If it's actually the coronation, it might not be the exact day. Some event in the preceding days perhaps?
