« on: Friday 22 April 05 10:37 BST (UK) »
Could somebody look for:
Henry LONG, Born Motcombe, Dorset. and his Wife, Ann, born Mere, Wiltshire Please.
They are recorded living in Mere in the 1851 Census.

Also interested in contact with anybody researching the Long surname in that area.

1841 census, Wiltshire
HO107 / 1183/4
Hundred of Mere, Parish of Mere
Enumeration district: 13: Folio 36, page 16
Henry LONG, 45, ag lab, not born in county
Ann do, 45, born in county
Maria do, 20, dress m, born in county

For 1841, don't forget ages are rounded down to the nearest 5 (after 15 years of age) though not all enumerators followed the directions.

Many thanks Christine,
The Henry I am looking for would have been 47 years of age in 1841, so allowing for rounding down this is probably the one I am looking for.

If you have access to the Motcombe, Dorset returns for that year I would be interested in any mention of John and Jane Long. I believe that John was born in Mere, Wiltshire and Jane was born in Motcombe.

Once again, many thanks.

Sorry, I dont have access to many census records - I have only a few Archive Cd Books single cds for the areas I'm interested in - in this case Mere is on the Trowbridge cd.

I did not see any other LONG family but I was probably only half-way through the district.

I've just been looking at Hilperton, and it is absolutely chockers with LONG families  ;D  all born in the county, and not another Henry.

I'm afraid I haven't time to write them all up just now.

Hello again Christine,
Thanks for letting me know about Hilperton, as far as I am aware most of my Long's came from Motcombe and then moved to Mere which is a couple of miles up the road even though they are different county's.

So my main interest would be Mere.
