James Johnston to Canada
« on: Saturday 26 March 11 00:03 GMT (UK) »
I'm looking for an outbound passenger from Liverpool by the name of James Johnston. Born in 1875, departing from Liverpool in 1910 or 1911 destined for Canada. Specifically the destination may be listed as Prince Rupert.

I know there are lists on the findmypast page, as I used to have subscription there and found g-grandmother this way. I've done the search on their indexes, and have located 4 possibilities when searching specifically within 1 year for the birth age.

What I need to know is the name of the ships for these four, so I can hunt through the Library and Archives Canada passenger lists to locate him. Hoping someone out there has a nice subscription and could dig this up for me?

Moderator, please feel free to move this topic to somewhere more appropriate if needed!

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the help trevor, unfortunately after looking those ones up at the LAC, I can't confirm any of them as the James I'm looking for. With a fairly common name like that, it's been hit and miss getting anything for him (mostly miss). Added to the problem is that he seems to possibly have missed both the 1911 UK census and the 1911 Canada census. All I really have to go on is the fact that when he died in 1929, they recorded the length of time in Canada as 18 years; which in the case of his wife, was off by 1 year when she died in '29 as well.

Thanks again!

hi well that narrows the field a little bit so let,s have another go , if you give me the 4 possibles you found i,ll post them up also do you have an occupation for your james and wether you think he travelled alone or with another person/persons , and have you any info re him in the census in england ie 1871  anything you can tell me may help to find him even his early life in canada .
