HINDLE - DURHAM/DARLINGTON
« on: Monday 28 March 11 08:35 BST (UK) »
I am just starting to trace my family tree and I am unable to go beyond my grandmother:  Georgina (mary) Hindle, born Nov 1911 in Durham, Darlington.  Her birth was registered as Georgina but her marriage certificate shows Georgina Mary.  Do you have any relevant information about her family line?  Thanks Karen

Hi Karen and welcome to rootschat
I have split your post off the other one so you now have your own query.  Can you give us more information about her from the certificates you have?    Parents' names and occupations would help.    You might be able to find a marriage for them on www.freebmnd.org.uk and getting that certificate will take you further back.  It looks as if her mother's maiden name was Rogan so a marriage between those two will be useful.

Hi Karen,
If you can get back a bit from your gran and your Hindles are still in Darlington we may well link up!  There were only two families of Hindles in Darlington in the 1800s, one is my line who originated from Keighley, moved to Darlington around 1802 and were carpenters.  The other is a churchman and his family, unconnected I believe  ;D

Pity your gran was born after the 1911 census.  There is a marriage shown on FreeBMD http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl in December 1889 in Darlington reg district between William Hindle and Sarah Ann Rogan.  I think I have found this couple on the 1901 census at 6 South Street, Darlington:

William Hindle 33 House painter bn. Shildon, Durham
Sarah Ann Hindle 30 bn. Darlington
Wm Martin Hindle 9
Thos Arthur Hindle 6
Sarah Jane Hindle 5
Lily Hindle 1
Andrew Rogan 16 single boarder
Lena Rogan 21 single boarder

Do any of these names ring bells as being your gran's siblings?  If this is the correct family for Georgina, her father William is the son of Thomas and Jane Hindle and her grandfather, Thomas, is the son of James and Mary Ann Hindle.  James Hindle was my 3xgreatgrandfather's brother.
