Can anyone make out the occupation of the above, the scan on FindMyPast is almost unreadable

HO107/piece 294/ book.folio 2/5 page 4.

If I am looking at the right one, I think it means Draper's Apprentice. That is, the line above says Draper's Shopman and John Voss's line says Do ( ditto) App.

THanks, he was a carpenter journeyman in the 1851, can't locate him in the 1861 and died (very inconveniently) in 1871.

Is he married? there is a John Voss aged 35 in 1861, a Joiner with wife Emma and  children Emma, Alice and Alfred John.

Yes Jen, that's him, Alfred John was my G. Grandfather, he is a bit of a mystery as we have not been able to find him in subsequent census until the 1881 when he suddenly appears as Alfre John Cox and has moved to London.  Not sure why the move or the name change although one may have been the reason for the other.

At least you have filled in another small hole.

FindMyPast his them listed as "DOSS"  :o

Couldn't find them despite using wild card search, however must admit it does look a bit like 'D' rather than 'V'.

Will notify them

Hi Alan

John Voss was brother of my great-great grandfather, George Voss, so you are my 4th cousin.  The name change of two of his children after his death, is, as far as I know, still a mystery.
Would love to know more. I have a pretty well researched tree abounding with Vosses, so please contact me (alij197 on ancestry.com).
