Mayfield - Boothby Graffoe
« on: Tuesday 29 March 11 16:18 BST (UK) »
I have a Ruth Mayfield chr. 16/03/1775 at Boothby Graffoe, and 8 siblings, with a father John and mother Mary.  Unfortunately, I cannot find a marriage record for John and Mary in order to obtain Mary's maiden name.

There is a christening record for a John Mayfield in Boothby Graffoe in 1748 whom I am assuming, rightly or wrongly, is Ruth's father.  His parents were also a John and a Mary, but no marriage record around that time.

Anyone out there able to help, please?

I see John and Mary started having kids in 1772, so perhaps

Re the other marriage:  I can see a couple of earlier births at Potter Hanworth (not too far away, 6 miles NE), but no marriages there in IGI, and FreeReg only has from 1754 :(

Thanks Geoff,  You're really on the ball.  Wonderfully quick answer.  I'm sure that could probably be the correct marriage.

Could you answer this one, please?
The IGI has Ruth's christening as 16/03/1775 and also one for 16/03/1776.  Are there two on the indexes you are using, or just the one?

Also, you mention earlier christening records of my second query i.e. parents of John c.1748.  Are these on the IGI or where could I find them?

Sorry, I can't help with the baptism.  I was hoping that one of the dates would have been a Sunday, but neither was :(

Somehow I missed this in my index  :-[

Brilliant.  Many thanks Geoff.  How do you find these answers so quickly?
