mary partridge
« on: Tuesday 29 March 11 16:21 BST (UK) »
help please.

cannot trace mary partridge's address on 1851 census.  she was born in 1796 in shropshire, can find her on 1841 in shrewsbury but she apparently moved to leeds.  i think she died in yorkshire in 1853.  if she had been in hospital would she appear on 1851 census.

am trying to trace where mary was born in shropshire, and her step daughter elizabeth.  hve found elizabeth on 1851 census down in torquay but cannot find her again on any other censuses.

am trawing through both ancestry and family search.  any help as to where i can find this info would be appreciated.

regards

I have found a Mary Partridge on Familysearch.org baptised 24 Apr 1791 at Great Hanwood, Shropshire. Parents shown as John and Mary Partridge.

Could this be her? You state she was born in 1796 but if that was taken from the census then 5 years out is not unreasonable in this era....

Hi MC

no thats not her, partridge was her married name.  before that she was mrs wynne.  her husband john died in the poor house.  she was william's second wife.

what i am really trying to do is break the brick wall with these ancestors.  william died in st marys shrewsbury jan/feb 1841, so do nt know where he was born.  can find his marriage to mary wynne in 1830, he was a widdower and she was a widdow.  his first wife was mary who died in 1829, they had two girls elizabeth b 1823 (every cencus has a diff date) and caroline, can find carolines baptism in st marys shrewsbury but can find nothing for elizabeth.

I find ancestry.co. quite trying at times as you seem to trawl through pages and pages.  i thought if i researched elizabeth i would probably find the area in shropshire she was born and might be able to link with where her parents were married and perhaps follow birth links etc.

i do understand that some of the records for habberley/pontesford in shropshire have been lost, so it may be that i am stuck.

tx anyway

no thats not her, partridge was her married name.

Sorry, I forgot about that on this occasion!!

Have you tried using Familysearch.org instead of Ancestry?
Familysearch has these records.......
William Partridge married Mary Wellings on 09 Jun 1825 at Condover, Shropshire
Mary Partridge is buried 23 Jun 1829 at Shrewsbury, Shropshire aged 46 (born 1783).
William Partridge married Mary Wynne on 22 Feb 1830 at St. Mary, Shrewsbury, Shropshire. Groom's Marital Status: Widowed. Bride's Marital Status: Single

There are 3 births of a William Partridge between 1797 and 1805 which lists some parents as per attached.....

Hi Mc

yes, i v tried familysearch but there does not seem to be any william's born about 1774, whether he was baptised at 23 i don't now (seems a bit old tho)

again if he married mary wellings in 1825 she would have been in her forties and so would he.  there are two girls of the supposedly first marriage to mary elizabeth born in shropshire (1841 census puts her at 1826 but I have caroline's details of birth 23 july 1826 and baptised 31 July 1826, whereas i can't find anything for elizabeth.  there is an entry for elizabeth christened 10. feb 1823 in ratlinghope with william and mary as parents but can't seem to link this to her.  again was william married previously.  i wish ancestors had filled in more details on their census forms (some of mine have and it has made it a lot easier). however, i was disappointed with census this year 'cus we did not have to put too much info down e.g. place of birth - i wanted to write pages of fam history for future generations, lol.

yes, i have just checked the details for mary wynn and williams marriage and it does state she is single altho on 1841 census she has wynne children with her, must check again.  I really ought to tidy up my pieces of paper and put them into some order and then perhaps i would nt get so frustrated.

tx for your help, it s amazing how we all trawl through records and miss things and other people can spot them.  i am finding ancestry a bit frustrating.

tx again

hi The Mc

have found them all in Leeds in 1851, but they are saying that they were born in salisbury, wiltshire (think they must have done a 'runner' from shrewsbury).  found caroline in Leeds in 1861 married.  Elizabeth is now down in torquay as a housekeeper, the people she is living with are from the yorkshire area.  she is now saying, same as caroline that they were born in shropshire, but as far as elizabeth is concerned i dont know where in shropshire, i know caroline was born and baptised in shrewsbury. if i can find that out i might be able to get a handle on where her mom and dad came from.

i did think elizabeth and caroline might be twins both born in 1826 but surely there woud be a baptism record for both girls.

think i had better sign off and get some sleep
