Joseph Watson's first wife Heyford early 1800's
« on: Friday 01 April 11 18:37 BST (UK) »
I have just received a copy of the parish register entry for the marriage of Joseph Watson & Ann Whiting in Olney Bucks 1 st Jan 1822

To my surprise, Joseph is described as a widower.

Can anyone help with tracing his first marriage and the death of his wife - and any children of the marriage?

He was bpt at Whilton in 1784, at the time of his 1822 marriage he is "of Heyford Wharf" and a Coal Merchant, tho he later becomes an Innkeeper & farmer in Weedon Bec.

I can only see 1 Joseph Watson marriage in that time frame in Northants and I don't think it fits.

Its at Kettering 29/5/1809 Joseph Watson OTP bach. Cordwainer to Ann Hill OTP

Re-visiting this brick wall!

I have now found the burial of a Mary Watson age 37 at Heyford, on 17 Oct 1821 who seems a good fit for Joseph's first wife
The PR's just describe her as "of Heyford", so no great help!

If this is Joseph's first wife, he certainly didn't lose any time in finding a replacement as his second marriage took place just 10 weeks later! So far as I can tell there were no children from Joseph's first marriage, so it want a case of needing someone to look after young children.

So, can anyone find a marriage for Joseph?
Or more details on who Mary was?

Thanks :)
