Please help me find George McCartney's death

I am trying to find George's death which probably took place in the Catrine/Sorn area between 1831(son Harap McCartney born 1831)  & 1841.

His wife Catherine (Taylor) died 1865 Glasgow. She was recorded as the widow of George who was a sergeant in the 84th Foot Regiment.

In 1841 she was living in Catrine Mill St and George is not on this census entry. They married in 1819 in Sorn. George may have died in Ayrshire between 1831  and 1841. Possibly she moved to Glasgow to be with one of her sons after George's death.

In the National Archives there is a George McCartney in the 84th Foot Regiment, born 1771 in Galway. This could be my George.

His discharge records don't give any details about his life after leaving the army in 1815.

I have MIs for Sorn but cannot find George.

Can anyone suggest a way I could find out if the George in the National Archives entry is the George  who lived in Ayrshire and married Catherine Taylor? Or even another way to try to find George's death ( I can't find it on Scotland's People) would be really welcome.

I could only find the death for 1 George McCartney in Ayrshire between 1830 & 1854 on scotlandspeople web site

George McCartney - died 1832, Tarbolton, Ayrshire

Hi Liz,

Thanks so much for looking.

I'd already checked this death on Scotland's People and this George was an infant. I also checked the one who died in Edinburgh, just to be sure, but this George was also an infant.

My search continues!
