1830's BMD at Frogmore - HARDY
« on: Monday 04 April 11 21:34 BST (UK) »
Thomas HARDY (b. about 1779, d. 25 Jan 1840 at Clarence House London) was a Page in the Royal Household of Princess Augusta at Frogmore.

Wife Martha (b. about 1801, d. abt  1843)
Daughters: Augusta (b. 1831), Sophia Mary (b. 1833), Louisa (b. 1835)

Seeking marriage date, birth/baptism for three daughters, death of wife (1843 Windsor JAS vol 6 pg. 164),  burial location.

I have 1841 Census for wife and daughters as well as newspaper announcement of his death.

In 1871 - Augusta Hardy b 1837 Windsor was working as a governess in Nottingham

In 1891 she is in London aged 60 b Windsor living at 70 East St Buildings - occ Governess.  Her widowed sister Sophia M Weedon aged 56 and her dtr Frances Weedon aged 28 b Pancras were living at 67 East St Buildings

She is elusive in 1881 but I believe she may be the entry indexed as Augusta WAETZIG aged 49 b Windsor Berks occ Governess and living with the Smith family in Lambeth Surrey.  Entry found on the LDS website

http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=census/search_census.asp

The image shows a boarder called John G Wadzig 62 - musician - unmarried  and the entry for Augusta has been "dittoed" under his so she appears to have the same surname

Thank you for the warm welcome and quick responses already!

Having found Thomas and Martha buried at St. John the Baptist may narrow the search for their wedding and the baptism of their three daughters to that parish.

As for the "elusive" Augusta -- she was employed by the Governor of Australia/Tasmania/New Zealand and later advertised herself for private lessons, so she was half a world away from Windsor at the time of the 1881 census.
