Question about occupation?
« on: Sunday 10 April 11 16:19 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I recently learned that the matthews family is from Ireland. In America it lists their occupation as blacksmith.

There is a refrence to a Robert Matthews "Iron worker" on a census. I am wondering if blacksmith and iron worker are about the same? Or if there was some other work for Iron worker's?

Can anyone fill me in on what an Ireland Iron Worker did in the 1800's?

Thanks so much for your help.
janie
