 …….
Defiantly a W. …………. Under high magnification. ….
There was a Hair on the lens of the copier
which started under the R of MaRy Ann's  signature
and curled through the W  of W Tanner
so it made it look like a H.

No sign of this W Tanner anywhere else on the Registers as a Witness
I did think at one point he might have been a member of the Church Staff. .

It is indeed! It was when I first saw the fiche with this that I realised that if there was a James Rawson the younger, there must have been a JR the elder -- and from there I was able to trace back another couple of generations, and then I started poking around in the history of Georgian building in Leicester and the effect of the end of the Napoleonic wars on the FWK trade - happy days, what a difference one little word makes!

I don't know who Tanner is/was. I suspect M A Rawson was Mary Ann's mum; both parents signing as witnesses - they clearly wanted to make sure that marraige went ahead!

But I didn't know that William's father was a salt manufacturer, nor that he was still in Cheshire so that is a big help!

many thanks again :)
