Eleanor Lea, bapt. Jan 1837, Chirk.
« on: Thursday 14 April 11 20:51 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to trace the parents of my great great grandmother, Eleanor Lea, LDS baptism 17th Jan 1837, Chirk, Denbighshire - just a shot on the dark, if anyone has access to the parish record, as I'm now living a few hundred miles away.

Also LDS state there are census records for Eleanor Lea:
1841 age 4  Oswestry, Denbighshire
1851 aged 14 Shrewsbury, Shropshire
I can't find them on Ancestry's website, despite looking page by page - have I missed something?

Any help, gratefully received and acknowledged.

Hello  :)

I have the Chirk records but I'm not at home at the moment. If no one responds in the next 10 days, I'll check in my records.

I've had a look at the Ancestry tree links and am a bit dubious about the none sourced information.

Sorry I can't help at the moment.

I do have Lee/Leas in the area.

Hi Twdyr

You said that you couldn't find her in the 1841/51 censuses ~

In 1841

Chirk village
HO107/1399/2/14/1  corrected folio number!

Margaret Lea, 30,  miller
Job, 10
Eleanor, 4
William, 2
Margaret and Job are not born Denbighshire

It's difficult  to work out the household as the household delimiters are unclear but there are also

Charles Lea, 30, miller j(ourneyman)
Elizabeth, 20
David Griffiths, 40, miller j
Edward Davies, do
John Davies, 15, do
Harriet Davies, 15, F.S
Sarah Thomas, 10, F.S

None of these were born Denbighsire

In 1851

Isle Mill, Rossall, Shrewsbury  Shropshire
HO107/1992/688/10

Visitor at the home of Robert Williams

Robert Williams, 39, miller, Shropshire
Margaret, w, 42, Flintshire
Margaret, dau, 9, Denbighshire
Searles, son, 7, do
Mary, dau, 5, do
Eleanor Lea, visitor, 14, do
William Lea, visitor, 11, do
Charles Griffiths, servant, 50, miller, Shropshire

WR - did John die and Margaret remarry or is the 1851 Margaret a coincidence?

I'm wondering if this is brother Job in 1851

Ball Mill, Oswestry
HO107/1993/336/21

Ellis Davies, 41, miller, Llanyblodwell, Shropshire
Mary, wife, 53, Castle, Montgomeryshire
Edward, son, , Maesbury, Shropshire
Ellis, son, 9, do
Job Lodwick Lea, servant,  20, miller, do

Would Lodwick be a possible indication of Margaret's surname  :-\

I don't see a birth registration for Eleanor but this looks as if it might be brother William's

William Lea, Mar q, 1839, Oswestry vol 18 page 146

Chirk was in the Oswestry reg district.

This will give mother's maiden name.

If you order from the GRO:

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

specify that  mother's name should be Margaret and birthplace should be Chirk.

(Added - On the Ancestry trees  there are some very dubious, unsourced and unsubstantiated  claims to half siblings with a mother Ann for William and a Henry!!)

As far as the Williams family(Robert and Margaret),I have the Margaret as being a Margaret Lea,born in Overton in 1808.Margaret being the daughter of a Job Lea(born Hanmer Flintshire 1778) and a Margaret Reece born in Overton in c 1778.Other children born to Job and Margaret being Charles Lea born in Overton in 1806 amd Job Lea born in Overton in 1811.Job snr and jnr are seen together on Census entries.

The name Lodwick is in fact a christian name.It being the name of Job's brother Lodwick Lea born in Penley in 1774.Lodwick Lea was to marry an Eleanor Newnes born in Flintshire c 1775.The children I have for Lodwick and Eleanor are,John Lea born in Penley in 1807,Job Lea born in Penley in 1809,Charles Lea born in Worthenbury in 1814.

Some time ago now I picked out of the Chirk Parish Registers Baptisms for Job Lodwick Lea(1830),Thomas Newnes Lea(1832) and Eleanor(1837),all given as the children of John and Margaret Lea.

So  it looks as if Margaret Williams nee Lea was possibly John's sister or close relative with the Job name carrying forward to John Lea and Margaret's children.

I'll check the Chirk registers when I get back, as I said, but I have Job as being born Maesbury.

There is a marriage of a Margaret Lea to a John Lea, Selattyn 28 Oct 1829. I don't see a marriaige for Robert Williams and a Margaret that looks a possible at the moment.   I'll check up for a death/burial of John when I get back.
