Need help finding a birth. Please help me!
« on: Monday 18 April 11 04:59 BST (UK) »
I've been looking for the birth record of a John Warwick. I have his death certificate, which states that he was born in Staffordshire, England and says that he died 1 Feb 1882 at age 81, which would make his birth year about 1801. The certificate has his Father as William Warwick and say that John's religion was Church of England. It does not give his Mothers name which I am desperately searching for.

I realise that it is hard to find records so early in the 1800s, but if anyone is at the records office or library and has time could you possibly have a quick look for me, it will be greatly appreciated. Any advice you can give me on my search is also very much appreciated.

Tammy

Tammy there were no births until 1837 only baptisms.  I checked the IGI for a baptism for John in Staffordshire and there is nothing for him, not everyone was baptised and not all records have survived.  There is a Marriage for William Warwick and Elizabeth Boulton 18.4.1785 St Michael Stone Staffordshire.  HTH from Linell.

Hi Tammy

I have found this record it is not in the Stafford area but it does match up to the marriage record that Linell found

John Warwick
14 Oct 1802 Bond St, Baptist Church Birmingham
Father William
Mother Elizabeth

Do you know if John had any siblings if he did try checking for there birth records

Oh that's a great find MargP, looks very likely, as Baptists weren't baptised until they were adults.  I have some ancestors from Bond Street Baptist Church, the records are held at Birmingham Record Office, would be worth having a look at, as the records have a lot of names and lists and other information.  Linell.

Hi Linell

I have looked on A******Y and there are a lot of people doing this tree and there so much conflicting information,I have looked at the census and there is one that looks promising for a William and Elizabeth the district is Handsworth Staffordshire but I think that this varied between Warwickshire so that could fit for the Baptist record.

Linell and Marg,

Thank you both so much for replying.

I do not know if John had any siblings. John became a convict, he was tried in Warwick assizes and sent to Australia in 1824. He Married a woman named Jane McKenna in Port Maquarie, New South Wales and lived the rest of his life there. If John did have any Siblings I don't think they would have ended up in Australia.

Forgive me if I sound ignorant but as I am from Australia I don't know the Geographical make up of your Counties. Is Staffordshire near Warwickshire? and how far away is Birmingham from each of those locations? I know there is a line of Warwick's in Australia that did come from Warwickshire but I didn't think John came from that line.

The two of you have found some good information. The record of the Birth does match John. His Death certificate did say he was born in Staffordshire but it could easily be wrong. The Australian Bd&M records tend to get the dates right but the places wrong.

Thanks again for your help, you two are amazing. I've been having so much trouble with this line because all the records and information are in England and I can't find any websites that give much information.

Tammy

Hi

Staffordshire adjoins Warwickshire:  Birmingham was within the country of Warwickshire.

You may find this link - for the Birmingham and Midland Society for Genealogy and Heraldry - useful http://www.bmsgh.org/

BMSGH covers Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire: the homepage has a map showing how the counties adjoin.
