Hello Jim,

I see from William and Susan Watts Perkins marriage, that they married by licence.

Many of these bonds for the date you are looking at (12 March 1802) are online, but it's a tedious process going through them - but it might give you a little more information.

Hello again Jim,

I don't know whether you subscribe to Ancestry, but someone there has a very detailed Family Tree on a William George Collier, born c 1765.

They have him married to Susanna Watts Perkins (on the right date) with ten children  (one of whom was called Horatio!)

There are also several copies of entries in various Army Lists - some say "William George Collier", and others "George Collier".

He is listed as a Lieutenant in the 11th Regiment of Foot, in 1795; Lieutenant in 9th (East Norfolk) Regiment of Foot in 1799 and a Captain in the same regiment in 1805.

There is also a Muster List of 24 April 1805 naming him as a Captain of the 1st Battalion of the 9th Regiment of Foot.

Fascinating stuff!

Hello Yorkslass and Junev,

Thanks for the replies. I had a look through the marriage bonds but unable to find the COLLIER/PERKINS one sadly. It might have been very helpful.

The Walduck family tree on Ancestry is mine actually. Just recently saw the baptism record for Sarah COLLIER born 1790, thanks to the Ottery St Mary OPC, and her father William COLLIER was a Corporal in the Prince of Wales 3rd Dragoon Guards. Her mother was Susannah ?
We realised there were several William Collier's in the Army, but William George's record seemed to show he was at the right place at almost the right time, including at some of Horatio Nelson's battles. However he was not in the 3rd - hopefully we can trace the record of this William now. There have been several reports from different branches of the family that he was a Captain in the Army, and names have been transferred faithfully to later generations  ...  ???

Appreciate your interest - it's fascinating to learn about history this way.
Good luck with your travels.

Thanks Yorkslass for finding the marriage bond - I thought I had looked at the positions where it ought to have been. You must be an expert.

It seems to indicate he was a Tin Plate Worker. This is contrary to our understanding that he was in the Army and a Captain at some point.
Thus they are probably another William COLLIER and Susannah. At least it explains the later marriage when our first child Sarah was born in 1790. The Watts in some of the next generation of COLLIER's must come from elsewhere.

Appreciate the help  ...  Jim

Jim, I had  go at trying to sharpen the image, and I can read this -

"That we, William Collier of the parish of St Peter Mancroft in this city of Norwich, musician,
and (someone) Baron of the same city Tin plate worker
"  are bound etc.

"the worshipful John Strachey Doctor of Laws Commissary and throughout ....."
then the next handwritten bit -
"William Collier, Batchelor, age twenty one and upwards and Susanna Perkins of the parish of St Peter
Mancroft aforesaid Spinster age twenty one and upwards"

Surely this is the couple you have in your tree.  The other Bondsman, Mr Baron was the Tin Plate Worker.  William, it appears was a Musician!

Yorkslass,
I thought the part between "Norwich ...   Tin Plate Worker" must have been a standard format, not realising there was another bondsman required (bond was 200 pounds, phew) - I read his Christian name as "otherwise". Have not done very well on this one !!
I suppose the marriage by licence may be required because they already had children, perhaps he had just left the army ?
Their daughter Sarah became a Piano Teacher, so the Musician part is also starting to fit this family.

Your help with this is invaluable, thankyou.
