Longhorn at Osborne House Farm
« on: Tuesday 19 April 11 02:06 BST (UK) »
Jane Longhorn died December 6th, 1912 in Gerrick, Moorsholm, Skelton. She was the widow of Samuel Longhorn who died in 1876 in Middlesborough. In the 1911 census Jane was living at Osborne House Farm where her daughter Edith Potter was living. Can anyone assist with locating where Jane would be buried? What is at Osborne House Farm now?

Hi AOK

Chances are that she was buried with her husband who may be in Linthorpe cemetery in Middlesbrough. Alternatively they may be buried where the family originated. Where was that?

There does not seem to be any MIs for the name LONGHORN in villages near Gerrick.

Looking at aerial view of Osbourne House I'd say it is still used as a farm.

Jane Longhorn was born Jane Kirby in Old Malton but the family moved from there. Samuel Longhorn is shown as from Weaverthorpe in the census data. I have been trying to find records of where either of them are buried and they may well be together. Edith Potter is Jane's daughter and if Jane is not buried with Samuel she may be where Edith and Michael Potter are but again I am unable to find records of burials.

Hi you two,

I have been trying to find records of where either of them are buried and they may well be together.

Could this be the burial for Samuel :

Burial date, 3rd January 1877
Samuel Longhorn
Age at death - 53 years
Calculated year of birth, 1824
Place of burial - New Linthorpe Cemetery
Middlesbrough

Kind regards,

Pels.

Samuel Longhorn is shown as from Weaverthorpe in the census data.

I don't know if this will help, I came across it when I was trying to confirm the burial.

Christening, 23rd October 1825
Samuel Longhorne
Parents, Thomas and Lois Longhorne
Weaverthorpe

Hi Pels:
That is most surely Samuel Longhorn that you have found in New Linthorpe Cemetery. I shall pursue that line and see if Jane is buried there also. Many thanks.
