PAUL, Newlyn family history research

Hi all
I posted on here last year and since then have still had no joy!
Im still trying to trace my Gramps 5x grt Grandfather for him i dont want to bore people with the same post but his name was Dennis McDonald who as stated before married Mary Dimsey Forester in Paul in 1807 on 21st feb
Mary was baptised in Paul to parents James and Sarah in 1785
She went on to remarry in 1812 to a Thomas Richards so im assuming somewhere between 1807 and 1812 Dennis died
on a 1857 marriage record for a John McDonald it has father Dennis MacDonald sailor
The reason for me posting again is does anyone know of an organisation in Cornwall that may be able to trace Dennis and hopefully find his place of birth for me? i dont mind paying as its my Gramps 70th birthday in september and id love to be able to show him where our surname originated from if at all possible for his birthday,any help or suggestions would be really appreciated,thanks for your time

do you have a copy of the marriage entry in 1807 to see if there are any clues there? Witness names may help as well. You can get a copy from the record office in Truro.

If there's a mention of the marriage in a local newspaper, it may mention his origins as might an obituary. Newspapers on microfilm are held at the Cornish Studies Library in Redruth

Hi Ospreymany thanks for reply unfortuneately i havent got the marriage cert i got sent the info last year by a kind roots chatter,ill try the links you sent,i was hoping to try and find a society or such that may be able to search for me if i have no joy with the links i may have to google cornish family history societys etc i reckon,thanks again for your info its really kind of you

but why not see what comes of checking the original marriage entry first? It doesn't cost very much as you have the date & parish, so you're not paying for research, just for photcopying. Think there may be a minimum payment so you could probably get the baptisms for the children & Mary's remarriage for the price. The archives will research for you for a price, but start with the marriage entry, with fingers crossed.

Unfortunately, both Newlyn & Paul are without opcs at the moment, although there is a contact for the interim.

Thanks for the links ive contacted someone on the Paul link on the site and hopefully they will email back and be able to help, i think ill purchase the wedding cert if i can as well as like you say maybe that will help,thanks again both of you for your time and replies its really appreciated

I can help with this as I have been helping somebody with the same research.
In fact it may well be a relative of yours as there is similarity in the request.
It has been quite complicated but we have come to some answers to the family of Dennis
