Richard Sellers Yarnall
« on: Wednesday 20 April 11 21:12 BST (UK) »
I have traced the Yarnall family (my wife's maiden name) back several generations and would like some assistance if possible.

Many of my wife's ancestors had the name Richard Sellers/Sellars Yarnall and the furthest back I have is for a man who died on 16/02/1844 in Grange Street, Bethnal Green. The death certificate states his age as either 59 or 69.

He married a Mary Ann Seal on 11/10/1807, but I have no information on where he was born.

My feeling is that he came from the Gloucester/Worcester area and I have found a Richard Sallers Yarnal born on 21/3/1776 in Chipping Camden (Details courtesy of the Chipping Camden Historical Society).

They were unable to find a death of Richard in that parish.

I just wondered if there may be some clues as to Richard's past?

Many thanks

Kevin Evans

Hello Suz

The copy of the death certificate I have looks as though the age was originally written in as 59 and changed to 69.

Clearly a 9 on the certificate though. I have him living on the 1841 Census at a place called Satchwell Rents.

Thanks for the information.

Kevin

I think abode at Burial (and census) is Satchwell Rents

London Street Directory Street name changes 1938
Satchwell Rents Bethnal Green Road E2 - to be incorporated with orange Street as Satchwell Road

the baptism you have 1776 Chipping Camden is on the IGI =extracted record
Spellings vary a little but baptised in same place all with father Samule Are:
Jenney, Maria, Lucy, Sarah, Thomas, John (1782-died 1783) John 1784, Ann 1779

Maybe finding a sibling still living in 1851 would help??

I have just rechecked the Burial (not death) record and age is very clearly written as 68

but as with many death and burial records the age is only as reliable as the informant

Hello again Suz

Yes, ages are very difficult to pin down to an exact number.

I have all the birth dates of Samuel's siblings, so I will try and go down the method you suggest.

Certainly helpful.

Thanks again

Kevin

Hello Suz

On closer inspection of the Census record, it states that Richard was born in the County of Middlesex, which does throw my Gloucestershire theory into bits.

Will concentrate on Middlesex for the time being.

It's amazing what you miss !!!!!!
