ASHTON at Ashill
« on: Thursday 21 April 11 15:30 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find the birth of one John Ashton who married Ann Furze in 1805.
I am a direct decedent of John. I suspect he was born circa 1780 at Ashill possibly son of John & Hannah. Have tried the Microfiche some years ago but was unsuccessful.
Can anyone help please.

Corrie

Hello Corrie,

Do you have him on a census return to verify the place and year of birth please?

Jo.

This might be him in 1851 with a second wife possibly given the age gap,

I think his wifes age is 45 not 65 as given but cannot be sure. :-\

I use the date circa 1780 because that is a possible gap between his siblings if i have the correct parents. I have seen a Will mentioning John and the people i think were his siblings. Parents may have been John Ashton and Hannah nee Munden married 1776.
What i need is a baptism which so far i cannot find.

Hope this makes sense

The IGI only covers baptisms for Ashill 1598 = 1663  :(

I cannot find anything on Freereg and it appears that the Ashill parish registers have not been transcribed.

The 1851 census entry which patrish has posted looks a distinct possibility. I would put Elizabeth's place of birth as Broadway. Genuki have this as 2 miles from Ashill.

I agree that it looks like Elizabeth was aged 45 in 1851, so very probable it was a second marriage.
