Help with finding death of Jean Taylor ms Smith (Completed thankyou)
« on: Tuesday 26 April 11 00:44 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help as to finding the above death as unable to find it on SP website?  I know that she died after 1884 as on husband William's death certificate in June of that year she is still alive.  She was born in Coaltown of Burnturk in 1809 to parents Charles Smith and Elspet(h) Ingles and on every census she is in Kettle but on the 1881 she and husband William are living with son Charles the innkeeper of the Cupar Arms in Cupar.  She does not appear on the 1891 census so pretty sure she must have died between 1884 and 1891.  Have tried numerous attempts at searching even under her maiden name but no results anywhere in Fife or anywhere else in Scotland.  Have found the same problem with the other set of ggg grandparents who I know died in Kettle after the Statutory records came into force but same problem.  Could it be that they were not very good at keeping records in that area in the past ? Any help would be much appreciate but know its a bit of a longshot.

Thank you

Karen

Hi Karen

I did a search on scotlandspeople with the following;

You searched for: Surname: "SMITH"; Surname Option: Exact; Forename: "J*"; Forename Option: Wildcard; Maiden Surname: "INGLES"; Include Unrecorded Maiden Surnames: On; Other Surname: "TAYLOR"; Sex: "Female"; Year From: 1884; Year To: 1891;

and I got the following results;

1 1885 SMITH JANE   TAYLOR F 84 CANONBIE /DUMFRIES
2 1890 SMITH JANET   TAYLOR F 52 SLAMANNAN /STIRLING
3 1891 SMITH JANET   TAYLOR GOURIE F 72 NEWINGTON EDINBURGH CITY/MIDLOTHIAN
4 1891 SMITH JANET TAYLOR   TAYLOR F 55 ST ANDREW (DUNDEE) DUNDEE CITY/ANGUS

Thankyou BruceL for checking that for me.  Three of the J Smith (Taylors)  were far too young to be her and the  one possibility, going by the age, I've checked out on previous census' in the area she died and sadly it's not her.  Have to keep looking but many thanks for trying to help.

Kind regards.
Karen

There was a Jane Smith, other name Taylor, died Kettle Fife in 1899 born 1810. You have probably looked at this one too. This one may very well have been Alexander Taylor's wife.
