Thomas Foster
« on: Tuesday 26 April 11 19:52 BST (UK) »
My ancestor is Thomas Foster who married Jane Clayton in 1796 in Bolton on Swale. They had two children cr. in Middleton Tyas and two in Danby Wiske. One of these entries lists him as a blacksmith.
As there are several Thomas Fosters born in this are around 1775 can anyone say where and when he was born ?

do you have the family on any census as this might help narrow down?

Thomas's children were, Robert cr.27.12.1798 Middleton Tyas, John,cr.1.1.1800 Middleton Tyas, Jane cr.29.8.1802 Danby Wiske and William cr.2.4.1804 Danby Wiske.
Robert married Mary Legg 1820 in Croft on Tees. There he was gardener to the Rev Charles Dodgeson, father of "Lewis Carrol".
Robert and Mary had 11 children ( family bible) Son Robert my G.G.Gradfather was cr. 1821 in Hurworth. I have quite a bit of information on this family if anyone wishes me to pass it on.

"My"Mary Legg was cr.24.7.1796 in Bishop Middleham, CoDurham. Her Father Barnabas Legg b.1733 in Bishop Middleham ( Thos and Mary's second son called Barnabas)  and mother Margaret Maugham b.30.7.1758. They were married in 12.2.1776 in B.M. ( A second marriage for him ??) info from I.G.I.
Mary's gravestone is in Croft churchyard which I saw a couple of years ago when over there.

ok no immediate match but i only go back as far as Robert legg 1730 ish stockton area = mary morton 1732 Stokesley.

it seems likely our Leggs must meet somewhere in cleveland!!
