Can anyone help with James's birth? COMPLETED thanks to Sharon01
« on: Wednesday 27 April 11 16:17 BST (UK) »
I have a James McFarlane who was born on 16th October 1893.

According to his 1937 marriage cert his dad was called Francis and was a miner.

Apart from going through every record on Scotland's people and spending a fortune is there any other way of finding his birth?

I did find one in 1901 who might fit(living in Rutherglen) born Airdre,but he's 9,so I'm not 100% convinced  ???

I don't know if his dad is alive by 1901,so he could also be one of those with just a mum,or other rellies.

Many thanks

Carol

Presume he married in England hence no mothers name.  Where did he die and when as I can't find a death in England with that birthdate?

Hi Carol,

What was James' mother's name? It should be on his Marriage Certificate.

If it's Rose Ann, then the family you found at 10 Wallace Street, Rutherglen may be the correct ones.

I wouldn't worry too much about him being listed +/- a year (especially if it's Ancestry's transcriptions you're looking at).

Where did you get his date of birth?

I take it you've seen that there were 27 James M*cFarlan*'s born in 1893!!

There are: 6 Francis M*cFarlan*'s born 1900/1901, 7 Patricks born 1893/95 and 69 Marys born 1896/1898

We're not sure- he could be the one who died aged 65 in Surrey SW in Jun 1959.

Yes he married in England at Woolwich Register office in May 1937.
We lose track of both him and his wife Kathleen Annie nee Tidy after about 1942.

My friend has just found out his DOB today from ringing up to ask if they would provide his army service record.......his service number is on his marr cert.
They confirmed his DOB- and said if alive today he'd be 116 so they are going to issue it without proof of death.

Where did you get his actual birthdate from?

Was he a bachelor when he married Kathleen as he would have been around 44yrs old by then

Have you looked for a death for Kathleen Annie as it may hold some clues - is she the one b 1909 Croydon?

yes she is

 ;D

Thanks

Carol

oops forgot to say we can't find a death for her for sure either.
A friend of mine did an electoral roll search for the 3 addresses we have ,and she wasn't at any of them although James was.

My quest now is just to find James's birth.........It's quite a hard, difficult story and it's not mine to tell  ;)

Hi Carol

Am I right in thinking James and his wife only had two sons? It's all I can see with those names, both births in Woolwich...and neither called Francis!

Yes Monica you are right  ;D

The oldest one died aged just 29......very sad :(

Hmm just thinking aloud here-the fact that he was a bachelor and aged 44 when he married, maybe he didn't really know his fathers name by then?
