More McBAY Stuff
« on: Thursday 28 April 11 17:46 BST (UK) »
The following is an extract from a much larger chart I'm compiling of the McBay Families of Johnshaven.  Going by data offered on Genes Reunited some reseachers have located data other than can be found on Scotlands People OPR and SR sources.  Can anyone point to these sources?
Regards,
Cy

hi Cy  :)

try the IGI familysearch beta search -

https://www.familysearch.org/#form=advanced-records

select relationship box - parents

enter father and mother's name , then search

should find 5 children pre 1855

Thanks Ev,  I'll do that.
I tend to ignore IGI, prefering primary sources but obviously that is being short sighted if not biased on my part.  I have had another look at SP and used McBEY and found a lot of what I had missed searching under McBAY.  McBEY being the original spelling I should have checked that earlier.

the IGI was taken from primary sources
however submitted entries(rather than extracted entries) have been added
which tends to undermine peoples confidence in the results

try here(submitted entries free) -

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/

if you enter "mcbey" , as you have already mentioned , it seem bring up what you are after

Hi Cy,
IGI Batch Number for the children under MCBEY C112535.
SP GROS ref:-
Edward, 253/0030 0100. Twin. 1848
David, ---------Ditto---------------
Logie, 253/0030 0120, 1850.
John, 253/0030 0120, 1852.
James, 253/0030 0120, 1854
All Benholm.
The IGI is a good starting point because it is free and the new data base in my opinion is very good, providing you use the specific search on Scotland and you can then back it up with SP for the certs.
I will be in touch via email message when I have more time and finish my garden alterations while the weather is good.
