John Bateman's parents

I am seeking documentation of John Bateman's parents.   I believe he was born in 1761 in Westmorland, England.  He married Mary Sandford, 24 Apr 1785 in Bampton, Westmorland, England.  He and his family lived in Askham, Westmorland, England after his marriage.

His birth is not on the Askham Parish register.
have you considered John Bateman baptised 2 July 1761 Morland,parents Oliver Bateman and probably Ann Foster (married 28 mar 1757 Morland)
Westmoreland -Farrer,Thompson,Park,Wharton,Airey
Lancs  Farrer ,Thompson,Clarke,Brewer,Reid,Howarth,Feast,Sladen,Southern

Ireland(Offaly)Reid
London -Feast

I have seriously considered that but would prefer to have some sort of documentation.  Since Oliver is a name that carries down through generations of my line, it seems highly probable but wish I could find documentation that would prove it.  The christening record does not record a mother which is interesting.

In that time, I can understand that but it sure doesn't help those of us centuries later attempting to link to our family.  I may just have to make a leap of faith that my John Bateman is the son of Oliver and probably, Ann Foster since his birth date is after Oliver and Ann's marriage date.  But there are so many Batemans in the area, that it is hard to be sure.
