At last a glimmer of hope
« on: Saturday 30 April 11 21:53 BST (UK) »
I was browsing through the new Lincs website and came across this

Smith & Sons, grocers & tallow-chandlers, of Louth: deeds to property in Gospelgate, Louth, a candle factory in Spilsby, and other legal papers
Reference Name MISC DEP 227
For details, please see the typescript catalogue in the Search Room.
Date: 1776-1898
Repository: Lincolnshire Archives [057]

I have a marriage for my Robert Smith (tailor) to Elizabeth Vinter in 1840 though there seems to have been a transposition with his father's name on the actual certificate....
Edward Smith (tailor) father's name Robert Smith (Tallow Chandler) married Elizabeth Vinter, father Robert Vinter (shoemaker) at Louth 3rd Aug 1840.

Robert has always given his birthplace as Splisby on 3 census (b1815)

Sorry this may be a bit confusing.
I have never found a baptism for Robert but the above Lincs entry definately seems to indicate a Smith family of Tallow Chandlers in the area.
My request please is if anyone is going to the Lincs Archives, could you have a look at this document for me, I would be most grateful
Thank you, Sylvia
