*COMPLETED* Census lookup Stirling?
« on: Sunday 01 May 11 21:09 BST (UK) »
I have several John Stewarts missing in my family (yeah I know a bit like John Smith  ::) )  However I think I've identified one in Stirling from someone's tree and would really like to verify this if possible before I go looking for certs on SP.

As said John Stewart he's with family on the 1841 census then a possible marriage to Elisabeth (Lamb)
Married: 17 Dec 1841 in Kippen, Stirling, Scotland
Note: They pledged marriage on 5 Dec 1841 in Kincardine, Perth.

According to the tree I found John was a journeyman tanner at Craigs, Stirling, Stirling with his wife Elizabeth and 3 sons on the 1851 census.  That tree did not give census data to confirm matching ages.
Three sons are named/born to this couple.
Walter STEWART b: 14 Feb 1843 in Stirling, Stirling, Scotland
John STEWART b: 18 Jan 1849 in Stirling, Stirling, Scotland
James STEWART b: 18 Feb 1851 in Stirling, Stirling, Scotland

Can anyone confirm this 1851 census plus data and perhaps find them on the subsequent census 1861/71 etc?

Many thanks!

hi Fifer  :)

the 1851 census data can be found on the freeCEN website
the childrens ages would seem to match up with the dates you have(IGI)
the parents both give their birthplace as thornhill perth.

http://www.freecen.org.uk/

this looks like them-
1881 7 lower craigs stirling stirling
john stewart 73 tanner b. kincardine perth
elizabeth stewart 71 b. kincardine perth

SP has elizabeth stewart(other surname lamb) death 1892 stirling stirling
born c1809

Thanks ev!  ;D  I found the 1841 last night but the rest is all news to me, so thank you very much.

Today I visited the Norrieston Church Graveyard in Thornhill but sadly John's parents stone is no longer there or is illegible (10 years since I was last there and the village road which runs by is a LOT busier!  :-X)  So I will have to get the death cert for John to confirm his parents.

Well an expensive mistake!  John died in 1895 but their son James was the informant and didn't know either of his grandparents names.  ::)
