Lancashire Regiment Enquiry *Completed with thanks*
« on: Wednesday 04 May 11 01:50 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I am slowly chipping away the brick wall I met ages ago.

I am trying to find my husbands gt. grandfather before he joined the Welsh regiment in 1892.

He was originally enlisted in the Lancashire Regiment.

He transfered to the Welsh Regiment on 05/09/1892.

His Welsh regimental No. was 3612.

On his Welsh medical records they have him as Samuel, but this was changed later to Simon.

His real name was Simon Martindale, born circa 1871 in Liverpool, his father was William and he also had a brother

Peter.

Hi Michelle

You need to be more specific about how it mentions 'Lancashire Regiment'. Posting an image of where it appears would be best.  The problem is that there was no such regiment. The closest is the King's Own (Royal Lancaster Regiment), or it could be one of the several regiments of Militia and Volunteers that existed in Lancashire at the time.

His attestation form on FindMyPast for the Welsh Regiment states that he previously served in 3rd Bn The King's (Liverpool Regiment). This was a Militia battalion. You may be able to find out more when FindMyPast uploads the WO96 documents (Militia Attestation Papers 1806-1913) later this year.

Thank you very much for your help.

I'll keep a look out for the documents on FindMyPast.
