Brompton - Melville Hospital
« on: Wednesday 04 May 11 10:30 BST (UK) »
Am looking for any records for Melville Hospital 1875.

A Henry De Legh was an inmate? 15/9/1875 to 18/10/1875 was Naval Staff Surgeon on half Pay and retired 18/9/1876.

Thanks in advance.

I can't see a Melville Hospital listed on the Hospital Records Database.  Nor can I see any references to it in the Centre for Kentish Studies.  But I'd suggest if no one else can help you contact them anyway to see if they know where archives for the hospital are kept.

The Times, July 26, 1905
King's Visit to Chatham

(Extract from report:-)

"....... The Naval Hospital, which the King will also formally open, occupies a breezy site some 200ft above the Medway, and 33 1/2 acres in extent. The accommodation is much greater than in Melville Hospital, which has just been vacated by the Navy......."

The records would presumably have been transferred to the new Hospital? The Melville was sometimes referred to as the Melviille Marine Hospital.

regards
