Bryant Family of Huntingdon 1800+
« on: Thursday 05 May 11 11:51 BST (UK) »
My gt.gt.gt.grandfather Charles Bryant with spouse Mary moved to Huntingdon from Gloucestershire at the turn of the 1800's. The had a Drapery business in town and lived in High Street Huntingdon. In 1829,a John Watson borrowed a sum of money from Charles Bryant and secured the loan in the event of an annual non-payment, with a document pledging  title deeds of his lands in Godmanchester (record retained in Northampton Registry Office). The obligation was structured though his descendents for 500 years!! I realise that a later act of Parliament prevents such obligations being passed down to future generations but I'm not sure what the position is regarding the ownership of the land's title which have undoubtably been built upon this past 200+ years? Charles died in 1830, shortly after the transaction was made but I understand the loan was never repaid to Mary Bryant's remaining Family.

Can anyone shed any light on this or information regarding the Bryant Family?

Many Thanks

I can't answer any of your queries however I have a small brass button with 'BRYANT HUNTINGDON'
on it. It needs to return to the bryant family.
