« on: Friday 06 May 11 15:03 BST (UK) »
just looking for some info on the surname Cronley as it seems to be unusual
In the 1901 census there appears to be less than forty in ireland
The family i am interested in lived in drummond rosenallis at this time
As far as i know the male line died out and the daughters married a feeney and McDonnell
thanking you in anticipation

Hello and welcome to rootschat  :)

Is that your family with Maria Cronley as head - there is a Micheal Fieny as a farm servant?

Griffiths Valuation has a Martin Cranly in Drummond, Rearymore
http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/laois/rearymore.htm

There are both Cronley and Cranly entries on Family Search

best wishes

Cheers and thanks for that .All that was very relevant
the first James  was my great great grandfather
Anne (nee healy) was his wife
the rest would all be family i think
maria (Mary ?) cronley died 29 05 1934 according to her memory card so it looks like the headstone is incorrect
thanks for the speedy reply
would be very interested in any records or info re. rosenallis  as my maternal grandfather was from clonaheen (gorman)  maternal great grandfather from mullaghnard (McDonnell or McDonald ) maternal great grandmother from drummond (cronley)
one confusing (annoying )bit is that mcd........s are listed on census and headstones as McDonnell but everywhere else they call themselves McDonald

Thanks for that Jack
The Daniel Gorman that died in October 1917 is the one i am interested in
I think that would be my great grandfather
Two little problems though
Firstly the ages don't correlate with the 1901 or 1911 census or is that usual
(its Daniel Gorman house no. 8 Clonaheen o Moreforest  in 1901 and Domhnall o Gormain house no.4 same address in 1911 )100 per cent certain on that being the correct family as there were more than one family of Gormans in Clonaheen
Secondly his wife Mary nee Dunne is buried in the C of I graveyard in Rosenallis (i think)
Are the church records available for Rosenallis as i would be interested in tracing both the Gorman and Dunne  sides back further if possible (assuming with your knowledge of the graveyard you either have an interest in the area or are local)
If you think you can help me further or point me in the right direction then pm me and we can exchange phone nos.(presume that's allowed)

Hello Denis,

Rosenallis have their own website and perhaps a request there would get a response from a 'local' about local families.

The COI graveyard has most of their headstones lying on the ground and are very hard to read, but again, perhaps a call to the name listed on the church notice might get records of burials.

I'm 'local' in the sense I'm in Portlaoise and have a general interest in Laois and have recorded over 130 graveyard headstone records from cemeteries in Laois (and quite a few outside).
