I am gong round in circles trying to trace my Grandmother Clara May Sawyer I know that she married my Grandfather Joseph Ernest Jeffrey in 1905 in Gt. Clacton Essex when she was 20 and her father was a James Sawyer , she was born in Lt. Glenham Suffolk in 1885 and in 1909 she was living on Horsey Island Essex but can not find any trace of her in either the 1891 or 1901 census Can anyone help Thanks

In 1901 she is using her middle name May.

Many thanks Jebber for you quick reply I did find the 1891 but was not sure about the Mary name but I found nothing in 1901 does it say who her parents were ?? because when I tracked back from Mary in the 1891 census I ran into more trouble

No sorry, she is in service in 1901, so no help with her family there.

Hi Roy, can see your problem going backwards, that is because James is an Arthur James !

Thanks for confirming what I suspected I had found that Arthur James but it then got even more complicated once you try to track his wife Elizabeth Sawyer backwards and forwards from 1881

Well you will not find her going forwards ( Census wise ) as James is a Widower in 1891? )
