St Christopher's Home
« on: Monday 09 May 11 10:22 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I was transferred from the Halifax area to St Christopher's Home (formerly St Christopher's Home for Girls) on Stockport Road, Altrincham, in 1952, at five years old. I was there about a year until I was adopted, and went back to Halifax

Before that I was in Fieldhead Nursery at Battyeford, Mirfield, for quite a while, with my sister

Is the house still there/ Is it worth me coming over to take pictures? I understand it was closed due to a new road being built nearby, and the children were transferred to Bowdon

Thanks,

Brian

Hi Halifax Man

Welcome to Rootschat.
Well being a Yorkie I thought I would try and help.  I found a most fantastic site you must search for.  It has photos of the old Battyeford and the new ones.  There on photo number 6 is a mention of Field Head.  Its on Kitson Hill, and although on the old or new photo you cannot see the hall, it does state that it is still there in a field.  Was the home of a Dr John Kitson and for the past few years has functioned as a Nursing home.
So put in your search engine Kitson Hill and it will show you 26 photos of the old Battyeford and gives a little story and then shows you the modern look
Very interesting, and so sorry about your story being sad, hopefully this will give you some joy

Hi, Sandymc,

Many thanks for your quick reply. Would you care to share the
URL of this website?

Not found anything of interest yet with Kitson Hill

Hi Brian

When you looked for Kitson Hill did you put the whole address
Kitson Hill, Battyeford, Mirfield, Yorkshire?

mirfield-2look.info/Gallery_4/Kitson_Hill/kitson_hill.html

Hope you can get through with this not very good at doing all the
bits and bats on these kind of addresses. Looked at the photo put
on by Stan thats a good photo.

Hi,

Thanks for the links to the great pictures. I'm pretty new at this
geneaology searching, and I must admit I'm a bit lost at the moment,
trying to figure out the best way to put my search inquiries. But I've
got plenty of time to do it

Just had my case notes released from my local council (after 60 years!),
so I have got loads of information I never had before, including finding
the names of two siblings I never knew about, plus another whose
name I have yet to find out

Hi Brian

Thats lovely news finding out about your siblings.
I hope you find them soon and have a great party
together again.

We cannot help with living relatives here on Roots but if
you know eventually who your ancestors are just put them
on a new thread on here and someone will try and help you.

Might also be good for you to look at the Yorkshire site on here
and see if anyone else is looking for the same people as yourself

Take care

Sandy,

Well, I wasn't particularly asking anyone to help with my living relatives...

Initially, I was asking if anyone knew of the existence or otherwise of St Chrstopher's

I am grateful for your interest and advice, though
