Recruiting Offices
« on: Monday 09 May 11 18:31 BST (UK) »
Hi, I am looking for information about army recruiting offices in Birmingham in 1929. Does anyone here know if there would have been more than one and where they were? If not does anyone know where I could find this info please?

Also what sort of tests would have been carried out?

Thanks very much.

You should try and find a Birmingham Directory for the period. You may find one online or if you live locally you can go to the record office for the area. Or ask on the Warwickshire section.

I found a recruiting office in Birkenhead in a Liverpool Directory. There were none in Liverpool itself, but as there were half a dozen depots in Liverpool a recruit could also just visit the depot of a regiment he fancied and enlist there. And it may have been the same in Birmingham.

Cheers Ken, that's very helpful. I'll try the directory next and failing that post again.

Thanks. :)
