Campbeltown research
« on: Tuesday 10 May 11 12:37 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I'm looking for anyone researching the McLean family in Campbeltown.

Four of my grandfather's siblings moved to Campbeltown from Peterhead.

I am hoping to go to Campbeltown sometime in the summer and it would be nice to meet up with possible relatives, or anyone that may know the McLean family.

The McLean's that moved there are;
Alexander McLean married Elsie Cameron
Donald McLean married Elizabeth McGregor Gilchrist and later Rosetta F Cameron
Eliza Jane McLean married William Gilchrist McDonald
William James McLean married Ann Houston O'may
McLean, Buchan, Bruce, Buchanhaven, Peterhead and Scotland.

Hi,

Have you also posted on the Kintyre forum?  This covers Campbeltown and the whole of the peninsula.
I  found them very helpful in the past when I was researching my family in Campbeltown.

You can find them here:-

www.kintyreforum.com

Good luck with your search.

Hello ZanT,

My much-loved grandparents were William & Ann McLean (nee Houston) and they lived in Campbeltown until they died. Billum (William) owned the Southern Sun fishing trawler there, and Ann was a great wit, and very industrious. They had 2 daughters, both still living in Campbeltown and in good health.

Several years ago I went to Peterhead, specifically to view the house the McLeans were raised in - it was tiny!!

If you want any specific info about them, let me know (I lived in Campbeltown until I got married).

Best wishes
A
