Brace / Wallis Tempsford 1745
« on: Tuesday 10 May 11 15:27 BST (UK) »
Hi
Can I please have some help ??
IGI entry - Adams BRACE marriage to Sarah WALLIS  8 December 1745 Tempsford
Then a LDS Family group record  giving her birth as about 1711 @ Tempsford
Next LDs Family group record with her as wife of Richard WALLIS married 1732
Last an IGI entry with Richard WALLIS  marriage to SARAH ( no surname ???)
Thing is i have  micro fiche for marriages in Huntingdon (which it says covers Tempsford) but only for the surnames T-Y so I am unable to trace BRACE and find any more info on this  and I cant find a birth in Hunts for Sarah Wallis (if that  was her maiden name ) of was she widowed ?
Does anyone know why an IGI entry would only give the spouse first name ??
One other thing does anyone know where I could order marriage certificates from around these dates ??
Thank you

Hunts Marriage Index doesn't include marriages in Tempsford, which is, and has always been, in Beds.

The 1732 alleged marriage on the IGI between Richard Wallis and Sarah is a member submission, not extracted from Tempsford parish register. All member submissions should be regarded as suspect. Only extracted entries are reliable. You've just found out why you should place no reliance on member submissions. However Richard and Sarah Wallis did baptise Sarah Wallis in 1736 in Tempsford. And there are four extracted baptisms of children of Adams and Sarah Brace in Tempsford 1746-57. But there's no burial of a Richard Wallis in Tempsford before 1746

Does anyone know why an IGI entry would only give the spouse first name ??
Because it's fiction submitted by an LDS church member

Marriage certificates only started in 1837. Marriages prior to this are simply entries in the parish register, and marriages prior to 1754 only usually give the names aof the bride and groom, and possibly a parish of residence if you're lucky.

The Adams Brace marriage is also a member submission so needs checking against the parish register to see if it's real. There's no Adams Brace marriage in Hunts 1701-54, nor a Richard Wallis to a Sarah.

What exactly are you looking for, and what's the oldest proven fact that you have?

Hi David
Hope your having good weather over there - its been glorious over in the uk lately .
Thanks for the prompt response - I recently attended a course and they said that if the IGI entry was in upper case then it would have been transcribed from the bishops transcripts so usually quite accurate - sadly this is the third of my family trees ive done and with the rising costs of certificates decided to go down the inexpensive route of ancestry and IGI etc  but this would appear to be a waste of time ??
This is just something I enjoy when I have the free time but with family migrating North I sadly cant research in the local studies groups.
The  family I had traced through the census returns and prior to that I found information from Wills found on TNA of which i have quite a few and documents held at the Norris Museum .

Simply not correct.

One of the RICHARD WALLIS 1732 marriage entries on the IGI is in upper case. Click on it, and check the messages box - "Record submitted by a member of the LDS Church". The messages box is the only certain way of finding out whether the entry is extracted or member submitted.  You can also click on the Source Call No. at the bottom of the page to get the exact source.
