Microsoft Works Help
« on: Saturday 14 May 11 21:26 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I am really hoping someone on here can help. I received a CD of records today in the mail and the person put all of the files on Microsoft Works. I don't know what version of it is but most likely 4.0.

I cannot open these files and I was hoping someone can help me convert them to a different type of file. The files end in WDB.

Thank you,

Megan

You`ll need works to convert them to a readable format such as Excel.

Been there, done it and got the tee shirt.

I can do the conversion easily enough, I installed works just to convert .wdb files, a guy at work had for our list of CDs and sheet music we have at work, but no one (including himself - new PC -no works) could read the files - they are all safely converted to excel and on the server now.

If the files aren`t to big you could email them to me and I should be able to do the conversion, depends on how private/personal they are.

You could ask the sender to re-save them as CSV files then you can use them with excel or Libre office or open office.

Kind regards.

Steve

Thank you for responding, unfortunately I can't take you up on your offer of converting them for me.

Somehow in trying to open then on various programs that I have on my computer. I have corrupted the disc. Now nothing happens.

So I will have to ask her to send it all to me again unfortunately! I don't think she knows how to convert them herself, as she is in her 80's. So I will probably get them the same way again.

If you dont mind I would like to take up your offer sometime in the next few weeks if that is okay. The files are very small and are all text files. Church records of Bap, Marr, and deaths.

Thank you,

Megan

I do have one file that I had sent to myself in an email to see if I could open it that way, can I send it to you and you can see how the file is set up?

Thanks Megan

Hi Megan

I converted the file you emailed to me, you should have it in your inbox.

When you have more, just email them and I`ll convert them.

Hopefully you`ll be able to read it.

Kind regards.

Steve
