Hi Wendoree,

On Camdex there is a marriage in 1894 of John Barley to Emma York in the district of Huntingdon and on the free BMD there is a death December 1906 for a John Barley aged 46 in Downham (which is on the borders of Cambridgeshire and Norfolk) and the same year in September James Barley aged 0 died in Biggleswade.

Hi Wendoree,

Samuel F Barley married June 1927 in Biggleswade to Eva A Thompson, Alice A Barley married September 1920 in Wellingborough to a Mr Harrison, James Barley married December 1929 in Wellingborough to Winifred Pickering. I am trying to find Caroline and I am wondering if she used the surname Smith as there is marriage of a Caroline Smith in  September 1916 to Alfred Smith in Biggleswade.

Hi Lyne,
Thankyou so much for your reply and info' you have given. What other info' I would really like to find is James Barley senior thought to have been born 1870s-he was a Horse trader and as a Gypsey/Traveller must have visited various places where Horse trading took place-I have tried to find him in the census but had no luck with not having enough info' about him or his wife-and his children travelling with other relatives. Thanks again.

Hi Wendoree,

On Camdex James Barley born 1871 Cambridge. Shows up on Free BMD as James Spenser G Barley.
Emma York born 1871 Huntingdon.

Also found this on the 1901 census
Name:  James Barley
Spouse:  Emma Barley
Birth:  abt 1842 - city, Cambridgeshire, England
Residence:  1901 - city, Huntingdonshire, England

The birth year is out quite alot but it could possibly be them.

Hi Wendoree,

Forget the 1901 census because I found another two James Barley's one born in 1839 Fenland and the other born 1841 Fenland.

The one on the census could be the father of your James Barley.

If we are on the right track with Alice getting married to a Mr Harrison then it looks as though she had three children all born in Wellingborough.

*

And if we assume the same of James getting married to Miss Pickering then it looks as though they had the following children all born in Wellingborough.

Lyne
