COMPLETED - Marriage Tynemouth 1920 Lookup Please!
« on: Sunday 15 May 11 15:44 BST (UK) »
I have searched the BMD index and know that William Towns married Nelly Watson in 1920 Q1 in Tynemouth.
I am not sure which church. This is the start of this part of my tree and am really looking to see the parents names so I can start developing this tree.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Welcome to Rootschat
Tynemouth Registration District covered a large area, see http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/REG/districts/tynemouth.html and it would be difficult to look at the registers for all the Anglican and Non-Conformist churches and chapels in the area, always assuming they did not marry in a Register office. The easiest way would be to purchase a copy of the marriage certificate, which should give the names of the respective fathers.

Okay, good to know. Thought I would see if it was possible without buying a certificate.

Hi,

Do you have any idea where they lived or were from?

This could narrow down where they may have married.  I live near North Shields and the Tynemouth parish church records are at North Shields Library.

I could possibly help you further, if you know whereabouts they lived?

Regards,

Trini.

there are a couple of William Towns around ,one down in Wallsend in 1901,

After I realised the size of the Tynemouth district and had such little information on them from family members I have ordered the marriage certificate.

The marriage certificate states St Augustins Church in North Shields as the place of marriage but does anyone know if I can access other records for this church so I can see if the children were baptised here?

Thanks

Hi,

St Augustins church records are held at Woodhorn.

You will have the names of the fathers of this couple from the Marriage cert.  It's possible to check the 1901 census for them, and possibly get back further.
