Bryde or Monck - any idea where these places are?- completed

I've been hunting - and I mean HUNTING - for information on Shirks and Nicholls, and finally found what I think may be the right marriage between the two.  The birthplaces listed for these two are BRYDE and MONCK, but I have no idea where these places are, let alone which country!  Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

thanks for the replies.  After much digging around, I found them right here in Canada to my surprise.  Not what I had been expecting!  These places don't even exist anymore.
