According to the 1851 Census, he was born in Salisbury, Wilts. around 1825. He was a prof. of music and church organist at Torview Parish Church. He was married to Eliza Ann (no maiden name known)
He had 4 daughters and 1 son - Ellen, Fanny, Mary Louisa and Minnie and Francis Edmund.
I am trying to find any info. before this date particularly his birth and marriage.

Professor is an appointment as the principle lecturer or teacher in a field of learning  at a university or college."Professor" in this context has a different meaning. "Professor of Music",  or "Music Professor" as applied to ordinary music-instructors, means they profess to teach music.
At that time it was more usual for people to call themselves "Professor" of Music etc. if they wanted to impress. You can see plenty advertising in the newspapers, and in Directories in the 19th Century. From the O.E.D. Professor Assumed as a grandiose title by professional teachers and exponents of various popular arts and sciences, as dancing, juggling, phrenology, etc.

I have a very good possibility for John's parents' marriage from the WFHS marriages CD. It says that James THYNE m. Elizabeth BUTLER. He was living at Salisbury St. Martin and she at Salisbury St. Edmund. They were married at Salisbury St. Edmund 27 Feb 1804.
