Ah, curiouser and curiouser! Thank you very much for doing that, Sue. Did you find that information on the SEAX website or did you visit the ERO at Chelmsford?

Hannah must have become the step-mother of my 3x Gt Grandfather Jabez Mayhew. As per my first post, Jabez was born 1793. So I still really need to ascertain who was the mother of Jabez and his older brothers, she was Sarah Unknown.

It would be great if SEAX does have the missing piece of my jigsaw amongst their online documents.

Regards,

Em

From the Seax website. Icouldn't find a death for a Sarah on the NBI, but TW died in 1844 and HM in 1845.

Where did you find a first possible marriage for Thomas William?

Ok thank you for the additional information, I really appreciate your help. Yes, I thought that was TWM's death in 1844, I found it of freebmd but with Mayhew being a bit less common than Smith I reckoned it could have been another Thomas. Didn't know about the marriage to Hannah, so of course didn't know of her death either.

Mum found a possible marriage on the IGI:

Sarah Thompson

23 FEB 1775      Saint Leonards, Shoreditch, London, England

Yes, it could well be them but I just wanted to be sure that there wasn't a marriage at Billericay or the vicinity, because the marriage at Shoreditch was a wee bit early. Their first known child was born 1791. There's a marriage at Terling but a tad late, 1796.

I'm a bit perplexed because the 1841 census has Jabez as born in Ireland. I have a vague recollection of Mum saying that Thomas may have been in the Essex Foot Regiment and that he might have been posted to Ireland. But why would the IGI have his birth and baptism at Billericay? The name Jabez was more common back then but still not all that common. I suppose it isn't impossible that Jabez was born in Ireland in June and baptised the following month in Billericay, but I have no proof of that.

This TW could be the son with the same name, because I can't find a later death for him up to 1910 (born 1792 so I allowed plenty of leeway) TW senior may have died pre 1837 registration commencement.

From the Seax website. Icouldn't find a death for a Sarah on the NBI, but TW died in 1844 and HM in 1845.

Wow!   :D

Thank you so very much Sue! Is that on the NBI version 2?

How did you find their marriage on SEAX, please? At which church in Shenfield or Chelmsford? I tried to find it just a while ago via the parishes but didn't know which church to look at. I need to note source details in case I want to get a copy of the original records.

The NBI is on a payperview site and found the burials on there.

The marriage, I just put in "Chelmsford registers" in the search box on Seax and searched the selected years after finding it on Boyds marriage index which is on the same payper view site as above.

It came up as

Tho Wm Maihew
Han M Potter
1798
Chelmsford

I can't thank you enough!  8)

On Ancestry or FindMyPast, or another site please? I need to look at Boyds for another marriage on Dad's side.

FindMyPast

Which other marriages are you looking for? :D

You might possibly rule out the 1775 marriage as it looks as if TW would have been too young. :'(
