Great Burstead Marriage c.1785 *COMPLETED*
« on: Monday 23 May 11 11:02 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I was told by the Essex Record Office that marriages for Billericay may come under Great Burstead. According to the IGI my ancestor Jabez Mayhew was born 19 JUN 1793 and christened 14 JUL 1793 Meeting House-Independ, Billericay, Essex, England. The IGI doesn't state where Jabez was born, just that he was christened at Billericay.

Jabez had two older brothers born in 1791 and 1792 (according to the IGI). Parents were Thomas William Mayhew and Sarah unknown.

I can't find a marriage at Billericay for their parents. Does anyone have the Great Burstead PR's for around that time please? I am really not sure if I am on the right track here. This is my Mum's side of the tree and she usually does her own branches and I do Dad's side of my tree. Mum found a marriage near/in London for a possible couple but Mum has gone off on the wrong track a few times before so I think I need to be sure if Thomas and Sarah were or weren't married closer to Billericay.

Regards,

Em

Hi Trevor,

Thank you for your message. Do you mean that you found or have a transcription of my ancestor's non-conformist baptism record stating that their abode was Shenfield? It would be great to find a copy of the original baptism.

Regards,

Em

Hi Trevor,

Thank you very much for looking it up on the genealogist and for your explanation. Are the records on the genealogist a mixture of extracts and submissions like on the IGI family search website? I've found that sometimes the submissions from LDS members can't be relied upon for accuracy. Ok, I will ask in Essex on Rootschat again.

Regards,

Em

just did a google search for the genealogist site and there is a free 14 day trial to be had go to thegenealogist.co.uk/tel/ it will give you a chance to evaluate the site for yourself , in answer to your question it isn,t the same set up as familysearch it,s in the same mould as  free bmd .

I found a marriage on Boyds marriage index that was tantalising, so looked at the original registers on Seax.

Thomas William Mayhew, widower of Shenfield
Hannah Maria Potter, spinster of the parish
by licence
15th April, 1798
witnesses
John Goulding
Martha Chamberlayne Potter
Chelmsford.
