Do you know what religion your Coleman & Stevenson families were ?

The RC and Civil parish (usually equivalent to the Church of Ireland parish) for Cootehill is Drumgoon, and the RC records go back to the late 1820s. Baptism and marriage records for the parish are available on microfilm in the PRONI. The National Library in Dublin only appear to have the baptisms. see link (Irish Times)

I dont see any mention of historic records for the parish of Drumgoon, or Cootehill in the Church of Ireland records available in the Representative Church Body Library or the National Archives

see :  Introduction to Irish Records

hi Shane  :)

mary coleman's marriage was Episcopal Church of Scotland
i'll have a look at the links you have provided
i've now found more children , ann coleman b. c1839 ireland and thomas coleman b. c1835 ireland
i might get lucky on the census returns and find a mention of cootehill or cavan

thanks for your help

I think that is an Anglican denomination - so equivalent to Church of Ireland / England.

RootsIreland (pay-website of the Irish History Family Foundation) appears to have some transcripts of the Church of Ireland for the parish of Drumgoon - even though they dont mention details on their list of sources. The index shows a marriage of a Robert Coleman in the Drumgoon (CI) parish... but in 1832

thomas coleman gives his age as 47 in 1881(b.c1834) so an 1832 marriage is a
possibility
robert coleman noted as weaver on daughter's marriage cert.
