Look-up - Gracie M BARNES of Clothall

Hi. Can someone help please.

Gracie M Barnes was the daughter of James Barnes and Eliza nee Gray. She was born c.1882 Shaw Green Nr. Clothall Herts. Trouble is I can't find her birth registration (Free BMD)- should be Royston RD.

I would like to know where she was living (and what her name was) in 1891 and 1901. James and Eliza Barnes, her parents, were living Rushden, Herts in 1891 but had moved to Great Chishill, Cambs by 1901.

Also could someone smarter than me find her birth registration, please.....

Hi Benzol, their is a very funny named Barnes in Sept 1881 Hitchin births:-


PRUCIE Maria Barnes Sept 1881 Hitchin 3a 408, their is also an 1882 birth with just Female Barnes.

 Take my hat off to you keyboard86. How did you manage that birth connection? I searched high and low. Thought Clothall was in Royston RD area but researched Hitchin as well.

I'm attempting to help a (5th) cousin Glenda who made contact with me, for the first time,  last week. She's been looking for the whereabouts of her great grandmother Gracie Barnes, whose been lost without trace, for many (25 I understand) years. ( Glenda's grandmother Hilda born 1901 Chishill was Gracie's illegitimate daughter). The stuff you've given me I'm sure will be very useful but of course it's just the start.

Glenda tells me that the family tom-toms say that Gracie went to America. I found a possible marriage, and I emphasise possible, for Gracie to a chap named Walter H Clark Royston RD Jun 1920 ref 3a.1892. Is it possible, with this limited information. to search with any hope of success UK to USA/Canada shipping records? Gracie Barnes before 1920 and Gracie Clark with husband Walter H after their marriage.

Could somebody try to locate the other Barnes girls, Florence Elizabeth and Linda Louisa. in the 1901 census?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks keyboard 86. More good stuff. Rosetta Downton nee Chapman was Linda's elder half sister.

Already had Linda's marriage but thanks anyway as your views beef up my own.

The name Gracie Barnes is a pain. I found only one birth in the whole of Free BMD. If my marriage is wrong in 1920 then I guess she could have been married as Grace E Barnes there are a number of those. Lets hope I'm right about the Royston marriage.

Anyway thanks once again for all your assistance and ferretting around.
