Family of James Crombie KILPATRICK in South Australia
« on: Wednesday 25 May 11 08:53 BST (UK) »
I am tracing the Kilpatrick family who settled in Sandridge Victoria in the 1850s. I had concentrated my efforts on Victoria and eastern states because of this but they are missing from 1850 (in Manchester) until 1855 (in Victoria). It appears they may have been in South Australia.

Missing info includes:
migration of Kilpatrick family: James, wife Mary, children Charles, Harry, Christian and Arthur
birth of daughter Martha Kilpatrick
death of daughter Martha Kilpatrick
death of son Harry (or Henry) Kilpatrick born 1846 Manchester
death of James Crombie Kilpatrick

Any help appreciated.

Hi Suevize
found this in SA Births Index of Registrations 1842-1906 SAGHS
KILPATRICK Martha (F) 7 Jan 1853 (at: not recorded) dist Adel par: James Crombie Kilpatrick & Mary O'Connor bk4 pg 113

District of Adelaide at this time covered a wide area.  It went as far north as Salisbury, south to Darlington, from the sea in the west to the hills in the east.   Districts of Yatala, Norwood, Hindmarsh & Port Adelaide were part of the Adelaide district at this time.  I can look at a copy which may contain an address of father, but can't do this until next week.

Have check the Deaths Indexes for 1842-1915 & 1916-1972 with no likely matches. The Marriages Index for 1842-1916 contain no female Kilpatricks at all, and only 3 males married during this time. No matches.

Thanks Petrel - this appears to be the correct record as all the records I have found for James record him as an engineer and I have found 4 children born in England.

http://www.slsa.sa.gov.au/fh/passengerlists/1851Petrel.htm

It may be a transcription error but it is KIRKPATRICK, James C, wife and four children on the passenger list of the PETREL.

A letter published from the passengers of the PETREL includes the name  James C KILPATRICK and family.  :)

Thanks to Cando and Sashar

This would fit well as the family registered the birth of their 4th child in Mar 1850 but do not appear in the 1851 census. According to Mrs Kilpatrick's death certificate they arrived sometime around 1851 and also James was an engineer.
