Hi Nicola

I`ve found out who the man and child are in the photo of the pub, it`s a Mr Holborow and the child is his daughter Hermione, apparently she is still alive!  It seems he kept the pub at some stage in the early 1900`s. Anne, the archivist, said she would see if she has any info on George Melsome so I`ll let you know when I hear anything from her.  I`m off to Cornwall in the morning and I`ll be away for the week so I won`t be in touch.  Good luck with your research, I hope it`s going well.

Regards, Sue

Hi Chris

Good to see your name again!  I was surprised to find out that the mysterious  Dorothy was married from the Melsomes pub.  Have you found out anymore about her recently?  Do you know what the connection is between Dorothy and the Melsomes or anything else about the family or the pub?  I haven't very much on the Melsomes but am happy to share the little I know if its any help!

Kind Regards

hi nicola
nice to hear from you again.
i havent been looking for Dorothy for a while but when i found this sight i thought i would try all my surnames and got you with Milliner.
after reading these messages agian i have to say that Dorothy was married in 1911 not one of the years mentioned as Georges tenency. she was married from Shortwood though not her home, i have been wondering if she is Florence Melsomes daughter. iwonder if this old lady Hermione would know!!

Hi Chris

Do you have Dorothy's marriage certificate?  Does it have an age on it?  Who witnessed the wedding - what relation to her?  Florence died 21 Jan 1910 if you didn't already know this.

sorry lots of questions!  just trying to work things out!

Regards
Nicola

hi Nicola

Dorothy Bell Milner was married in Stroud register office in 1911 she was 19 years old no profession no father.
The witnesses are Albert H Milner and Annie Milner.
 Note the poor spelling.
I guess that Albert is her uncle and Annie her grandmother who would have been 71.
There is an Aunt Annie who would be about 55 but I cant find her anywhere.
Stroud register office has done a search for me and i have tried every spelling plus using Bell as the surname.

positive news i have found Annie Milliners first husband Enoch Gardner and her marriage dates.
i haven't the proof yet but i think she was born Hester Ann Wright. i will send off for the certificates.

i have looked at your tree on Genes Reunited but there is not a lot on it! So i don't know if this is very relevant to you
please have a look at mine.

Chris

Hi

I believe that Annie and Enoch were married on 13 Aug 1857 in Thornbury, but you can probably confirm this when you get your certificates.  Please let me know!

I have sort of given  up on Genes Reunited, but have lots more infro - had a bit of a good run lately! so let me know if you have any gaps and I will look to see if I know anything!

Will think about the rest of the things you have written tomorrow and get back to you!
