BAILEY: electoral registers 1832-1914
« on: Thursday 26 May 11 11:31 BST (UK) »
Can someone with access to the Somerset electoral register please have a look for any James, William or Sarah BAILEY (or variants) from 1832-1865?  I think they moved between Taunton and Langport.

Is it the census you want?

There are 51 James Bailey's in Somerset in 1841, so a bit more detail is needed! ;D

Do you know when they were born?
What is their relationship to each other?
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Electoral Rolls were not indexed by name, you need to know the address before you can find someone.
There was a growing tendency in the 19th century to arrange the lists in the larger towns by street and house number and after 1918 this became obligatory.

Hi

I think the request relates to the recent release of Somerset Electoral Registers 1832-1914 on Origins.net and it looks like it is searchable.

Thank you all for your input.

Yes, I was referring to the seachable records.  I have looked at the 1820 electoral register for Taunton but that is all.

William was born (Taunton ?) c 1784 and Sarah (nee Matthews, b. Collumpton) in 1778.  They lived in Taunton from 1815 to 1828 and again c1842- 1860.  In between times I think they were in Langport.  William was a perfumer / hairdresser.

James was born c 1760.  I have records of him in Taunton from 1800 to 1824.  He was a perfumer.

Regards

Doug
