G'day Chatters,
Would any one have access to Parish records for the old Parish of Charlton which before 1855 was in Kent before becoming part of the metropolitan area of London in 1855.
I am seeking information on a CEELY family namely a James believed to have been born 1819/20

James Seely born 9th Feb baptised 1 March 1818, son of John & Charlotte Seely. John was a shipwright and resided in Woolwich.
Another son Thomas was born in 1820, a son John in 1815, a daughter Lavinia in 1814.
Is the family?

Thank you Nell.
I am sorry but I did not include the information that James CEELYs father was recorded as Robert at the time of his marriage to a Hannah HASSEY in Hull 1848.
This obviously will change things a bit.
At the time of the 1851 census James gave his place of birth as Charlton.

Oh dear, thought I was on to something there. Never mind. I can't say that I saw Robert's name in the register.
Have you found Robert in 1841 at all?

Nell,
At the time of his marriage in 1848 James recorded that his father was deceased.

Hi
According to the topic on the London and Middlesex board
LMA/Ancestry "Missing" Parishes
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,430983.0.html
St Lukes Charlton is not included in the parishes on Ancestry - those deposited at the London Metropolitan Archives and the Guildhall Library.
The registers or at least copies of the registers are held at Greenwich archives
http://www.greenwichheritage.org/
Though they have been included in North West Kent Family History Society's publications
http://www.nwkfhs.org.uk/pub_pr.htm
Strictly speaking Charlton was part of Kent until 1889.
Regards
Valda
